About Us

Center Township Volunteer Fire Department #3 was chartered in 1948. Charter members are henry Erickson, Paul Gilliam, and Henry Winkle. During the first years, the pumper was stored in Erickson's driveway. In 1952, Station #3 was constructed on what is now Monaca Road and Gillian Drive. This building served as both the truck room and the social hall for 20 years until we moved to the current location on Van Kirk Road. The new building consisted of 2 truck bays and a 200 seat social hall. A second building was added a few years later with 4 ambulance bays, offices, sleeping quarters and an eating area. Community Ambulance resided in the ambulance bays. A third truck bay was constructed in 1980 to connect the two buildings to form our current station. Today, the ambulance area is used as leased storage spaces.

Station 38 has several acres of land which is used by Center Township Recreation Department. Station 38 has been the center of the community. A children's playground was constructed as well as a basketball court and picnic pavilion. There is an out building that is currently used by the Center Youth Soccer association and the local Boy Scout troop. The social hall is used for the Van Kirk Lutheran Church bazaar and the annual children's Christmas party.
